主要从事杂交稻环境适应性分子遗传与分子育种研究。主持或承担国家自然科学基金、湖南省重大科技专项等项目课题15项。克隆和鉴定水稻新抗病基因4个,开发水稻抗病基因功能分子标记4个。发表学术论文40余篇。获授权发明专利2项、植物新品种保护权6项;获湖南省自然科学二等奖等科技奖励4项。
