湖南农业大学、湖南大学博士生导师,湖南省青年科技奖和湖南省自然科学杰出青年基金获得者,湖南省青年科技人才托举工程培养对象。兼任作物学教育部重点实验室主任,湖南省逆境生物学实验室主任。长期从事水稻高产、高抗(抗病、抗虫、非生物逆境)、工程雄性不育系育种及杂交稻机械化制种等方面的基础与应用基础研究。主要成效:(1)运用基因工程手段实现了普通细胞核雄性不育系的高效繁殖,解决了第三代杂交稻育种关键技术难题,相关发明专利成果转让3000万元;(2)合作育成了广两优1128、T优207、T优463、T优855和Y两优1号等杂交组合,产生了显著的社会效益和经济效益;(3)克隆了产量性状相关基因DSTreg1与QTL:PL6、隐性红颖基因rh4,解析了强优恢复系HR1128大穗抗倒的分子遗传基础,建立了落粒性改良的基因编辑定向育种技术。获得湖南省科技进步一等奖一项、二、三等奖9项,在PNAS、Plant Molecular Biology、Rice等主流期刊上发表论文100篇;主持科研项目11项,授权发明专利10项。
